Since its founding in 1982 the Boston Gay Men’s Chorus has infused itself into the GLBT community of Boston. It has also reached out beyond that community into the political, social and arts arenas.
As a staunch supporter of GLBT causes, the Chorus has distinguished itself by performing for every major AIDS service organization in the area; several Human Rights Campaign annual fundraising dinners; various events during Pride Week in Boston; the Fenway Men’s Event dinner and is the main draw for Holly Folly, Provincetown’s community holiday celebration held each December. The Chorus has created innovative collaborations with organizations including Greater Boston PFLAG, GLSEN Boston, AIDS Action Committee, and more.
The BGMC was also an active participant in the same-sex marriage movement, becoming a role model for other choruses throughout the world. The BGMC performed at numerous events and hand delivered CDs of itself singing “Marry Us” to every Massachusetts state legislator. The Chorus performed at the first ever legal gay marriage in the US/MA and dozens since.
Each year the BGMC donates more than 300 tickets to gay and lesbian student organizations and to people living with HIV. The Chorus also donates tickets and CDs to support dozens of Boston area non-profit causes. The Chorus has been invited to perform concerts at dozens of open and affirming faith communities throughout New England, bringing its message and music directly to thousands of people in urban, suburban, and rural locales, helping to create new allies for the GLBT community.
The Boston Gay Men’s Chorus collaborates with communities of faith, schools and businesses. The chorus comes and performs in the local community. When working with schools the BGMC’s Music Director engages with the students ahead of time and then they join the Chorus on stage. All proceeds from the concert go to support GSA’s and other supportive groups. Since the program’s inception the BGMC has helped raise over $100,000 and brought a vital lifeline to youth organizations.
If you would like to request the donation of tickets or CDs to support a local cause, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org. Because we receive a high volume of requests, please understand that we cannot support all requests. Generally, the BGMC does not provide cash support, purchase event tickets or buy advertising in event programs.
The BGMC welcomes requests for community outreach performances around Boston and throughout New England. Please note that our busy schedule makes our availability limited and we receive far more requests than we can accommodate. We book about 18 to 24 months in advance.
